A few months ago I came across the video promoting the “Society for Geek Advancement”. I didn’t link to it right away because to be honest I don’t think all of the people in the video can be called true geeks. Don’t get me wrong I really do respect some of them like Leo Laport, Wil Wheaton, Levar Burton, Justine Ezarik, Kevin Rose, and of course the Woz. I’m sure I’m forgetting many more. The problem is they seem to be confusing geek with hipster blogger. I’m not saying you can’t be both by any means, but with the exception of the ones I have mentioned there didn’t seem to be very many “true geeks” on that list. I’m not going to go into a long explanation about what a “true geek” is but most people know if they are, or at least know it when they see it.
